County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 2.

Keel 2-10, Templenoe 2-14.

Templenoe had a good win on the road away to Keel to make it 2 wins out of 2 in the county league at Keel GAA Grounds last Saturday evening.

Underfoot conditions were slippy and there was a crossfield field breeze that seemed to favour Templenoe in the first half and Keel in the second half. Keel dominated the possession in the opening 10 minutes, but they failed to make it count on the scoreboard hitting 3 wides and 2 short. But Adrian Spillane made no such mistake for Templenoe with his first effort sailing all the ways over the bar from outside the arc for a 2 pointer in the 5th minute. The visitors consolidated their position with three unanswered points from Gavin Crowley, Aidan Crowley (45), Colin Crowley (f) to put them 0-00 to 0-05 ahead at the end of the first quarter.

It took 17 minutes for Keel to open their account through Dylan Prendergast from play, but then came Templenoe best spell in the game when they doubled their tally within 4 minutes. Adrian Spillane with his trademark run cut through the Keel defence and buried ball to the net giving keeper Stephen Cahillane no chance. Mark Casey and Hugh Granville raised white flags either side of Adrian Spillane’s goal to extend the visitors lead to nine points. The hosts had scores from Shane Evans and Paul Costello (f) before the break to keep their hopes alive, while Templenoe made sure they would have the upper hand going into the second half with further scores from Aidan Crowley (f) and Sean Sheehan.

Half Time Score: Keel 0-04, Templenoe 1-09.

At the re-start Aidan Crowley with a 2 pointer free, traded scores with Paul Costello (f) and Shane Evans for Keel. The hosts squandered a few more scoring chances before Lachlan Griffin and Mark Casey swapped points. Then came Templenoe’s second goal when good build up play saw Mark Casey through on goal and he riffled his shot to the net. This made the score 0-06 to 2-12 after 48 minutes of play.

Keel refused to lie down however and soon after they staged a rally of their own hitting 1-04 without reply, which started with a goal from Shane Evans and they quickly followed up on this with a 2 pointer from Colin Foley along with 2 more scores from their sharpshooter Shane Evans. All of a sudden there was now only 5 points separating the sides. When cool heads were needed towards the end both Ronán O’Connor and Mark Casey put up their hands with 2 late points to seal the win. Keel did hit back one last time with a converted penalty from Shane Evans, but Templenoe despite losing Mark Casey to a black card at the end had already done enough.
