Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Group 1, Round 3.

Templenoe 1-10, Na Gaeil 1-18.

Templenoe made their exit from this year senior club championship following an eight points defeat to an on-form Na Gaeil side who made two wins out of two to top the group.

Templenoe played with high intensity in the opening quarter and lead by 0-04 to 0-01 after ten minutes and possibly should have had more. Killian Spillane scored all four with one from play and three from placed balls. Na Gaeil’s sole score in this period came from Fergal Barry. Oisin Maunsell and Jack Barry exchanged scores with Gavin Crowley, before a goal somewhat against the run of play by Diarmaid O’Connor after he ran at the Templenoe defence to put the visitors in front for the first time to make the score 0-05 to 1-03.

Templenoe responded quite well with Colin Crowley nailing a two pointer free to put them back in front. However, it was the Tralee side who went on to make the stronger finish to the first half after they outscored the hosts by four points to one to go in the happier at the break. Na Gaeil just seemed to be able to take their scores that bit easier when they were on the offensive with Jack Doyle, Dara Devine and Kieran O’Connor all contributing while Killian Spillane landed over another free for Templenoe.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-08, Na Gaeil 1-07.

Templenoe went into this game needing to win by 9 points to qualify from the group, they now needed to win the second half by 11 points. This was always going to be a big ask. On resumption Killian Spillane reduced the margin to the minimum, but Na Gaeil hit back with two points on the bounce from Dara Devine and Oisin Maunsell. Then in the 38th minute a goal from Gavin Crowley after he palmed the ball to the net on the rebound from a Mark Casey shot rocketing off the crossbar. This levelled the contest at 1-09 apiece and briefly raised the hopes of the home support.

However, it was from here on that Na Gaeil’s power began to show. Five unanswered points from Dara Devine, Conor Bohane, Jack Doyle , Sean O’Connor and Jack Sheehan put clear daylight between the sides with scoreboard reading 1-09 to 1-14 with 48 minutes played. Things didn’t get any better for the home side in the remaining minutes with just one more point courtesy of Killian Spillane, while Na Gaeil finished with a flurry at the other end with Oisin Maunsell, Diarmuid O’Connor (2) and Stefan Okunbar all scoring to end their day on a high note.
