Waterville 0-09, Templenoe 0-11.
Templenoe are through to South Kerry League final for the second year in a row after they withstood a second half fight back from Waterville at Waterville GAA Grounds on Saturday.
The game was played in chilly but dry conditions. Templenoe had the aid of s strong breeze for the first half, but it was the hosts that opened the scoring. Their lead was short lived however as Templenoe went on to hit next seven points on the trot, which included 2 two pointers from Brian and Colin Crowley to put the visitors 0-01 to 0-07 ahead at the end of the first quarter.
Further scores were added by Colin Crowley to extend Templenoe’s lead to nine points, but they were not of sight and credit to the Waterville defence they snuffed out any Templenoe attempts at goal. Waterville pulled two points back just before the interval.
Half Time Score: Waterville 0-03, Templenoe 0-10.
Templenoe keeper Mark Looney scored their 11th point in the 33rd minute and little did anyone think that this would turn out to be the visitors last score. With the wind to their backs Waterville had nothing to lose but to have a go and they gradually started to eat into Templenoe’s lead. By the end of the third quarter the score was 0-05 to 0-11.
The remaining 15 minutes saw Templenoe struggle to find a pathway for scores while Waterville kept plugging away and eventually brought the deficit down to two points and there was still enough time remaining for the hosts to salvage a result. In the end, Templenoe just about did enough to close out the game and while the second half may not have been pretty for them, a win is a win and reaching a South Kerry League Final for the second year in a row is still a good start to 2026.
