County Senior Football League, Division 2, Round 4.

Templenoe 2-12, John Mitchels 1-10.

Templenoe made it three county league wins out of three with victory at home to John Mitchels on Saturday evening last.

We finally had a fine evening for a game of football and there was a decent crowd in attendance, John Mitchels got off to a dream start and were ahead by 1-01 inside the first three minutes with Cian Holden opening the scoring with a point, before Darragh Cunnane palmed the ball to the net following good build up play by the Mitchels. But the hosts quickly regrouped and responded in kind with Michael O’Mahony and Colin Crowley getting them off the mark before Sean Sheehan got in for goal for the second county league game in a row. The game was finely balanced with Micheal O’Mahony and Brian Crowley trading scores with Ciaran White, Sean Moloney and Mikey Kelliher to make the score 1-04 apiece after 20 minutes of play. But Templenoe finished the half the stronger with four points on the trot from Aidan Crowley, Martin Reilly, John Spillane and Brian Crowley to send the hosts in the happier at the interval.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-08, John Mitchels 1-04

The third quarter was very much dominated by John Mitchels and they did reel in Templenoe’s lead to just one point with scores from Darragh Cunnane, Paudie White and Mikey Kelliher. However, on the evening the Mitchels were also somewhat wasteful with their shooting, but that said they were unlucky not to have added a goal when Cian O’Brien hit the crossbar in the 42nd minute. With twelve minutes remaining the score was Templenoe 1-08, John Mitchels 1-07.

Templenoe’s first score in the second half came in the 49th minute courtesy of Brian Crowley, which was quickly followed up with another score from Micheal O’Mahony. Cian Holden and Cian O’Brien added points either side of an Adrian Spillane score for the hosts to leave just two points in it with four minutes of normal time remaining. Then Aidan Crowley exchanged scores with Mikey Kelliher to keep the margin at two with time fast running out. Mitchels needed a goal, but they were unable to find a pathway. In the end it was actually the hosts who managed to find the net with substitute Patrick Clifford applying a neat finish on his return from injury to seal two more valuable county league points for Templenoe. Another bonus from the evening was the solid display throughout by Josh Linnane in goals on his first competitive start for the Templenoe seniors replacing the out of action Mark Looney.
