Templenoe 5-16, Skellig Rangers 1-07

The Templenoe senior footballers under the new management team of Paddy Curran (Manager), Brian L O’Sullivan and Dan O’Connor got the year off to a flying start as they cruised to a 21 points victory over Skellig Rangers at Templenoe GAA Grounds on Sunday.

The hosts played against the wind for the first half and lead by 1-05 to 0-02 at the end of the first quarter, with veteran Sean Sheehan bagging their first goal in the second minute. Credit to Skellig Rangers who scored 2 two pointers in the first half, they fought back well to score a goal of their own and were level by the 26th minute, but that was as good as it got for them. Brian Crowley nudged Templenoe ahead by the slimmest of margins just before the break.

Templenoe were rampant from the off in the second half. Sean Sheehan added a second goal following a great team move, before Micheal O’Mahony on his debut for the Templenoe seniors and Brian Crowley not once but twice raised three more green flags to effectively end the game as a contest. By the end of the third quarter Templenoe had an unassailable lead of 5-10 to 1-06. The remaining 15 minutes offered both sides the opportunity to empty their benches and among the players introduced by Templenoe was sub keeper Josh Linnane for his first taste of competitive action for the Templenoe seniors. Today also saw debut starts for Darragh Casey and Jack Wiggins in Templenoe’s full back line.
