Duagh 1-10, Templenoe 4-09

Templenoe were crowned champions of Div4 of the County Senior Football League on Sunday afternoon after a good victory over Duagh. The match was played on a dry Duagh pitch, which featured a strong crosswind that didn’t really favour either team.

Templenoe had a good start to the match, and opened an early three point through scored from Sean Sheehan, Danny Cahalane and Tadhg Morley. Duagh opened their scoring from full forward Maurice O’Connor on the ten minute mark. With the wind making it hard to score, Danny Cahalane pointed a free which was replied to with a Jer Kelly point for Duagh. Danny Cahalane, who was having a great opening half, pointed two more frees to leave Templenoe ahead by five points with five minutes left in the half.

Duagh replied with a bizarre point when the ball bounced twice on the Templenoe crossbar and was caught by goalie, Anthony Sheehan. The ref deemed that the ball had crossed the line and gave the score. The final point of the half came the way of the home team, scored by Nigel O’Connor.

Templenoe got a great start to the 2nd half when a long free attempt by Patrick Palmer broke out to Brian Crowley who blasted the ball to the net. This was soon followed up by a John Spillane goal when a quick Templenoe move put him through.

Duagh kept in tough through points from Kerry Midfielder Anthony Maher, in a period that saw little action from both teams. Adrian Spillane sparked the match back to life with a great long distance point. Duagh again replied with a free, but a great high kicked pass from John Spillane found Adrian Spillane in a one on one situation near the Duagh square. Adrian won his contest for the ball and finished it to the net. Templenoe looked safe at this stage, and a similar move again found Adrian Spillane who scored his 2nd of the afternoon.

Duagh who were battling relegation, pressed for a goal, and ended scoring 1-01 in the dying minutes of the match. It was too little, too late and Templenoe ended victorious on a scoreline of Templenoe 4-09, Duagh 1-10.

Afterwards the Division 4 trophy was presented to Templenoe captain, Shane Cremin. Shane thanked the team management, players, Club officers and especially the big crowd of supporters who travelled up to North Kerry for the match
