Templenoe advanced to the 2^nd round of the Castleisland Co-Op County Junior Football Championship in a very high scoring match played in a sun drenched Templenoe GAA Grounds.

St Pats opened the scoring with a pointed free from full forward Kieran Hurley. Templenoe responded quickly, and had points from the boot of Killian Spillane and Teddy Doyle, but this was cancelled out by another Kieran Hurley point.

Kieran Hurley put the away side ahead with a good point from play, and on the 13^th minute, Gary Savage scored the visitors first goal. St Pats won the next kick out and the subsequent long ball into the square resulted in a penalty. Kieran Hurley dispatched to ball low and left to extend St Pats advantage. On the 15 minute mark, the score was Templenoe 0-02, St Pats 2-03.

Both teams exchanged points, and Templenoe missed a glorious chance when Killian Spillane spun his man and passed to his brother Adrian but the shot missed the target. They were not denied a few minutes later, and Killian Spillane got Templenoe’s first goal.

Teddy Doyle got two points in a row with the 2^nd point resulting from a free where Teddy was hauled down. The ref issued a black card to St Pat’s midfielder Michael O’Sullivan.

Killian Spillane added to the scoring, and soon after, great work from Daniel O’Neill found Stephen O’Sullivan in space. The corner forward attacked the goal at pace and crossed the ball to Danny Cahalane who got Templenoe’s 2^nd goal. This was late in the 1^st half, but the scoring was not done. Another St Pats high ball from a sideline saw Kieran Hurley fouled in the square, and this time he scored the penalty to the right of Anthony Sheehan.

The half time score in an exciting 1^st half was Templenoe 2-06, St Pats 3-04 but it was a costly half for the visitors as they lost David O’Callaghan and Liam Poff to injury as well as the black card.

Templenoe had the slight advantage of the breeze in the 2^nd half, and got the first two points from Cian Hallissey and Stephen O’Sullivan. Liam O’Sullivan missed a point opportunity for St Pats, and soon after a Templenoe point attempt rebounding off the crossbar fell into Gavin Crowley’s hands who finished it to the net.

This left the score on the 40^th minute, Templenoe 3-08, St Pat’s 3-04, but again St Pat’s responded with a goal when Kieran Hurley got his hand to a high ball and flicked it home.

John Spillane scored a very good point on the run, which was cancelled out by another Kieran Hurley point. This proved to be the last score by St Pats, and Templenoe pushed on to score the last five points of the match. The pick of these scores came from Gavin Crowley, pointing a 40 meter kick out by the right sideline.

Templenoe advanced to the next round of the County Junior Football Championship, winning on a scoreline of Templenoe 3-14, St Pats Blennerville 4-05.

Following on from last week’s win over St Pats, Templenoe were again playing at home. This time against Na Gaeil in the second round of the Castleisland Co-Op County Junior Football Championship. And again like the previous week the match was played in splendid weather with a slight breeze blowing across the field.

Templenoe got off to a quick start and after five minutes had already notched up 1-02 on the scoreboard. The goal scored by Killian Spillane after he fetched a long pass from Teddy Doyle. Kieran O’Donovan scored a good long range point for the visitors, but Templenoe followed with two frees from Killian Spillane and Teddy Doyle.

Darragh Carmody pointed Na Gaeil’s second score with a free, in a period where the visitors were playing some good football but were kicking some poor wides.

Templenoe extended their advantage when a good long ball from Sean Sheehan found Adrian Spillane who slipped a pass to Teddy Doyle for a very well worked point. On the 22^nd minute the scoreline read Templenoe 1-05, Na Gaeil 0-02.

In the final five minutes of the half, Killian Spillane kicked three great points in a row, and again followed with the last point of the half to leave Templenoe in control on a scoreline of Templenoe 1-09, Na Gaeil 0-02.

The second half continued much like the first half, and on the 45^th minute, Templenoe led on a scoreline of Templenoe 1-14, Na Gaeil 0-02. The pick of the scores was a left legged point from Cian Hallissey from distance, but during this period Na Gaeil continued to enjoy good possession, but their shooting left them down.

The corner forward for Na Gaeil, Mike Griffin, shot a goal, but their following few attacks yielded no more scores. Templenoe chipped in with a few more points and advanced to the semi-final of the County Senior Football Championship on a score of Templenoe 1-18, Na Gaeil 1-02.

This was a very good and open match played in ideal conditions for football in Beaufort GAA Grounds. Both teams held periods of control over the sixty minutes, and the final scoreline does not do justice to how hard Templenoe had to fight to emerge victorious in this County Junior semi-final.

Templenoe opened very brightly and by the 12^th minute had opened up a Templenoe 0-04, Firies 0-01 lead through scores from Killian Spillane (3) and Stephen O’Sullivan. Firies came storming back into proceedings, and the next 15 minutes saw them kick five unanswered points from the boot of Colm O’Shea (2), William Courtney and Padraig De Bruin (2).

Templenoe were not playing well, but good running from Brian Crowley was rewarded with a pointed free. Soon after, the Firies centre back, James O’Donoghue was dismissed with a black card. Templenoe got the final score of the half with another pointed free from Killian Spillane.

The opening point of the 2^nd half was a pointed free by Colm O’Shea. Killian Spillane responded with another free, and soon after, good work by Teddy Doyle set Sean Sheehan up for the first of his four points of the 2^nd half. Firies again responded with a brace of points, leaving the score on the 40^th minute, Templenoe 0-08, Firies 0-09.

A fast ball into Killian Spillane saw him isolated in a good position running at goal. Killian drew the defender and passed the ball across the square for Brian Crowley to palm to the back of the net for a very important Templenoe goal. This gave Templenoe great confidence, and they pushed on kicking the next three points from Brian Crowley and Sean Sheehan (2).

With ten minutes left in the contest, Templenoe led on a score of Templenoe 1-11, Firies 0-09. Firies were not finished yet, and two quick pointed frees from Colm O’Shea left a goal in the difference. Soon after Colm O’Shea pointed well from play, but this was cancelled out by another Sean Sheehan point.

Again Firies reduced the margin to two points with another pointed free, but Templenoe finally found some breathing space when a swift attack found Adrian Spillane who rifled the ball home to the back of the net. The last three points of the match came Templenoe’s way to put an unfair reflection on the score. Templenoe 2-14, Firies 0-14

Novice Champions just two years ago, Templenoe were crowned Kerry Junior Champions today following victory over Glenbeigh-Glencar in a disappointingly one sided final in Fitzgerald Stadium.

Once the winners took advantage of the wind in the first half to open up an 8 points interval lead, the writing was always on the wall for the Mid Kerry men and Templenoe were quite content to soak up the pressure in the second half.

Templenoe got the perfect start when Gavin Crowley pointed them in front two minutes in and two minutes later Sean Sheehan was on hand to finish to the net after Killian Spillane’s shot was saved by Rory O’Connor. Gavan O’Grady did open the scoring for Glenbeigh in the 6th minute but Templenoe added four points to one in reply to lead by 1-5 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. The losers were making no headway against the Templenoe defence and after Stephen O’Sullivan reduced the deficit, Teddy Doyle showed the difference between the sides when he combined with his two midfielders to shoot a point in the 25th minute. Killian Spillane, from a free and play left the half time score 1-8 to 0-3 in Templenoe’s favour.

Gavan O’Grady and Patrick Clifford swapped points on the resumption before Glenbeigh-Glencar were dealt another blow when Pa Kilkenny saw red after a second yellow in the 39th minute. The game as a contest deteriorated thereafter and Templenoe led by 1-11 to 0-5 when Glenbeigh were awarded a penalty after a good move between Darran O’Sullivan and Gavan O’Drady in the 52nd minute. The latter duly despatched the penalty to the net to leave the margin at 6 points but Danny Cahalane, Patrick Clifford and Teddy Doyle replied with points for Templenoe and the final score of the game came from Darran O’Sullivan who fired just over the bar from a close in free in the final moments.

After the game, the Con Brosnan Cup was presented to winning captain Tadhg Morley by County Committee Vice Chairman Diarmiad Ó Sé and The Castleisland Mart Man of the Match was presented to Templenoe’s wing back Gavin Crowley by Jimmy Roche of Castleisland Mart.

Templenoe will now play Bandon of Cork in the Munster Junior Club Semi final on November 22nd at a Cork venue

Templenoe proved far superior to Glenbeigh-Glencar in the Kerry JFC final at Fitzgerald Stadium yesterday.

It was a super display by this young Templenoe side, led by the Crowley twins and Killian Spillane.

Once again, Division 1 side Glenbeigh/Glencar failed to perform in a final, and only Fergal Griffin and Jack Brosnan measured up.

Templenoe were on top from the outset as they dominated the midfield exchanges, with Sean Sheehan and Adrian Spillane ruling the roost. Glenbeigh/Glencar were all at sea at the back, as Killian Spillane caused havoc with some excellent points and the Crowley twins were surging forward at every opportunity.

After Gavin Crowley kicked the opening point, Templenoe struck for a soft goal, as Josh Holland drilled the ball under a defender and Glenbeigh/Glencar were in disarray.

Gavin O’Grady responded with a free for Glenbeigh/Glencar but it was all Templenoe. They controlled matters and added seven more points before the interval, with Killian Spillane kicking 0-4, including a beauty in injury time.

Colin McGillycuddy and Stephen O’Sullivan kept the Mid Kerry side afloat but playing with the wind, Templenoe led at the interval, 1-8 to 0-3.

Glenbeigh/Glencar did enjoy more possession in the second half but never looked like getting back into it as Templenoe defended admirably, led by Gavin Crowley.

Patrick Clifford kicked two good second-half points from wing back for Templenoe while Danny Cahalane and full-back Tadgh Morley also added points, with O’Grady adding two frees for the losers.

O’Grady did convert a 53rd minute penalty but the goal came too late and Templenoe will now take some beating in the Munster campaign.

Templenoe 0-16, Bandon 1-10

A crowd of 1052 people descended on Clonakilty to witness a hard fought battle between Templenoe and Bandon in the Munster Junior Football semi final. Despite the dry afternoon, the match was played on a very heavy pitch, with little or no wind affecting play.

Templenoe had the ideal start to the match and on the 15^th minute had opened up a 0-07 to 0-01 lead over Bandon. The Templenoe scores coming from Cian Hallissey, Patrick Clifford, Danny Cahalane, Killian Spillane and Brian Crowley. Bandon’s corner back Brian Crowley received a black card in this period. On the 20^th minute, Cork Senior player Mark Sugrue, pointed a free, and picked up the resulting kickout to score a goal. Bandon took great heart from these scores, and both teams exchanges two points apiece, to leave the half time score, Templenoe 0-09, Bandon 1-04.

Templenoe had another good start to the 2^nd half, and kicked the first three points through Cian Hallissey and Teddy Doyle (2). Matthey McNamara replied for Bandon, but by the 48^th minute, Templenoe had further extended their lead to six points.

The last 10 minutes saw Bandon reduce the deficit to four with 2 Mark Sugrue frees. Bandon started pressing for a goal, and very nearly got one with a goalmouth scramble with the ball ending up wide of the post. A well worked Templenoe move resulted in a Killian Spillane point to lift the siege. There was enough time for Mark Sugrue to point another free before the ref blew for full time, leaving Templenoe victorious on a score of Templenoe 0-16, Bandon 1-10.

Templenoe (Kerry) 0-16 Bandon (Cork) 1-10:

Templenoe qualified for this year’s AIB Munster JFC decider after an intense battle with Bandon in Clonakilty on Saturday.

The Kerry side proved too strong for a Bandon team that began without the services of injured trio Donough Lucey, Barry Collins and Joe Harrington.

A slicker Templenoe kept the scoreboard ticking over throughout the hour while Bandon relied heavily on star forward Mark Sugrue to stay in touch.

“We knew it was going to be tough and that we were in for a battle coming down to Clonakilty,”

“Winter conditions are never easy to play in but in fairness to our lads they started well before getting drawn into a bit of a dogfight. People talk about our forward line a lot but we have a fairly mean back division as well. They showed that when things got tough. Semi-finals are games you have to win and in fairness to Bandon, they put in some effort. They could have stolen a late goal to level it so we are just delighted to be in the Munster final.”

Despite the defeat, opposing manager Colm Aherne paid tribute to his team’s efforts and their commitment throughout a long year.

“I’m immensely proud of the entire squad but sometimes you meet a team that’s better than you on the day,” said Crowley.

“Losing the three lads to injury didn’t help but the guys who came in did very well.

“Templenoe got off to a very good and start and we found it hard to claw them back. We just couldn’t reel them in during the closing stages.”

An attendance of over 1,000 witnessed a thrilling finale in which Bandon emptied their substitute’s bench and reduced the deficit to a goal with time ticking down.

Templenoe’s impressive defense stood firm and ensured their progress to a Munster final against Coolmeen (Clare).

Temple of doom for Coolmeen as Templenoe inflict hammering(Taken from the Irish Examiner)

Templenoe (Kerry) 2-17 Coolmeen (Clare) 0-3: Josh Holland, with the second last kick of this Munster final contest, billowed the Coolmeen net with a rasping left-footed drive.

The result had long since been wrapped up, but Holland’s goal drew, arguably, the loudest cheer of the afternoon from the blue and white clad supporters resident in the main stand.

Holland, up until the 62nd minute, was the sole member of the Templenoe starting front six not to have etched his name onto the scoresheet and when his gilt-edged goal chance on 55 minutes was well saved by Coolmeen ‘keeper Aidan Corry, it appeared the left half-forward would finish the hour without a pen stroke beside his name.

His injury-time goal then, in which he was set-up by sub Colm Breen, was Templenoe’s 19th score from play and brought to nine their number of scoreboard contributors.

Referee James Bermingham sounded the final whistle from the ensuing kick-out, Templenoe celebrating Munster glory with 20-points to spare. This was a stroll in the park for Mike Crowley’s young side.

“I don’t care who does the scoring,” quipped the winning manager. “If I have a half-forward who doesn’t score, but does the job he is asked to do for us and keeps the lads buzzing inside, that is enough.” Yesterday afternoon in Mallow, not one of Crowley’s troops failed to shine.

“We had the football and once our fellas were up to the pitch of the game, there was only going to be one outcome after that. It is a big achievement for a very small club. Templenoe have had some very bad days.

“We were in Division 5 of the league for a long time. The attitude of this squad is good, their form is good and this is a great day for Templenoe because we don’t get many days like this.

“We have seen plenty of Kerry junior club teams walking up the steps of Croke Park and it is a great incentive for the boys. We could do it the same as anybody else.

“I know we are a small club, but we seem to have a decent team. We are going to milk it wherever we can.”

Heavy favourites arriving into this game, the Kerry champions were out of sight as early as the 20th minute. Of the opening eight chances created, both teams enjoyed four apiece. The difference was that Templenoe raised four white flags; Coolmeen, on the other hand, managed just the solitary minor.

With Teddy Doyle hugely influential at centre-forward and Adrian Spillane similarly dominant at midfield, Coolmeen spent a large portion of the first period trapped in their own half.

The Clare champions were cleaned out under their own kick-out and were always struggling to counter Templenoe’s direct and fluent style.

Their passing was remarkably sharp, with Killian Spillane, Danny Cahalane and Stephen O’Sullivan able and confident in finding the target, irrespective of space or angle.

Doyle (0-3), Gavin Crowley, Cian Hallissey (0-2) and Adrian Spillane (0-1) also got in on the act as Templenoe returned to the dressing room 0-12 to 0-1 ahead.

A Cathal O’Connor free on eight minutes marked Coolmeen’s sole first-half score and although the losing captain struck their first from play 10 seconds upon the restart, the Clare side would find the target on only one further occasion in the second period – O’Connor again the provider. Just the one scorer and just the one score from play told the full tale of Coolmeen’s difficulties and while their opponents were a far tamer outfit in the second-half, the gap between the teams continued to widen.

Danny Cahalane, set-up by Holland, struck the opening goal on 33 minutes, with Stephen O’Sullivan (0-2), near-impenetrable full-back Tadhg Morley and sub Pat Spillane (0-2) their most impressive second-half performers.

“Their tempo was unbelievable,” said Coolmeen manager Martin Daly of the newly crowned Munster champions. They are an exceptional team and more than likely these guys are going to win the All-Ireland.”

John Mitchel’s quest for All-Ireland glory got stuck in the Pairc na hEireann mud, as visitors Templenoe easily secured passage onto the semi-finals. This was not a fair reflection on the capabilities of the Liverpool men as they did not play to their potential; barring Paraic McGuirk, the rest will no doubt be disappointed with how they fared. On the other hand, it was felt that Templenoe could up the gears if needed and that they played well within themselves. Templenoe had won the Munster Championship on December 12th while their opponents hadn’t been in competitive action since November 8th. Throughout the game this stat would tell a tale; as rustiness was quite evident through Mitchel’s sloppy passing and running off the ball. The conditions would not lend itself to good football, the bright sunny day was a bogus front for a chilly, windy afternoon with terrible underfoot conditions.

Mitchels got off to a great start and took the lead through Kildare’s Paddy Mulligan, as he knock over the opening score from 30 metres out. This was good as they got for the Liverpool men, as for the remainder of the half they failed to gain a foothold in midfield and move the ball to their inside forward line. Templenoe were totally dominant in the middle where Sean Sheehan and Adrian Spillane reigned supreme, every breaking ball the Kerry men were to first. Within 5 minutes, Stephen O’Sullivan, Killane Spillane and Danny Cahalane had put scores on the board to reflect their dominance. Numerous last-gasp blocks by the John Mitchel’s rearguard, showed just how under pressure they were. By this time, Templenoe were employing a cross-field long ball policy which to be fair to John Mitchels, they were dealing with well. Another long ball however was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Cian Hallissey majestically soared through the air to pluck the ball amid an army of players to feed Killiane Spillane and without much back lift, he let rip to make the ball fly past Matty Deeney in the Mitchel’s goal. It was a fantastic finish by the young lad to bring his tally to a goal and two points by the 20th minute. Soon after, an effort from Mitchel’s Michael Higgins as he raced clear of the Templenoe defence, was cleared off the line by a defender to the woes of the travelling Liverpudlian support. Spillane added another soon after to leave the score at half-time Templenoe 1-05 v 0-01 John Mitchels. Mitchels struggled badly in this opening half as they flooded men back to plug holes, however this was robbing Peter to pay Paul, as now the men who should have been receiving the ball in the half-forward line, was not deep in their own defence. McGuirk was going through a mountain of work for John Mitchels, but the Templenoe men had done their homework and stopped his runs by fair means or ‘other’.

Mitchels came out in the second-half with wind advantage and replicated what they did in the opening half by scoring first, again through the boot of Paddy Mulligan. Hallissey soon replied however, as Teddy Doyle was starting to stamp his authority on the game. Disaster then struck for John Mitchels, an altercation involving Higgins, resulted in him receiving a red card for striking. They now had to see out the remaining 22 minutes with 14 men, and things soon got worse as Stephen O’Sullivan buried a shot to the back of the net after great work by Brian Crowley. This signalled the end of their victory chances. To be fair however, they kept fighting up to the very final whistle and outscored the Kerry men by 4 points to 1 over the next 10 minutes. All their scores coming from Mulligan frees. The last score of the came from the impressive Brian Crowley from a tight angle to leave the final score Templenoe 2-08 v 0-06 John Mitchels.

No doubt Templenoe will enter the semi-final stage as favourites. They looked like a Senior team at times today and one can only think of what they would be like on hard ground. Templenoe were made up of mainly young men, but many stood 6 foot tall and had the build to match which was a surprise to many of the supporters in Britain, they have a great combination of physique and skill. Overall, they had some impressive displays today, none more so than wing back Patrick Clifford who was the man of the match as his tackling and driving runs were a joy to behold. John Mitchels however, will feel that they just didn’t turn up and will be bitterly disappointed. What a season it has been however for the Liverpool men, another Lancashire and British Championship to add to their collection. They have been the British Champions for the last 3 years now and have won 7 of the last 9 Lancashire Championships. Barry Morris (Fermanagh) has done a fantastic job at the helm and he has played a huge role in the GAA here in Britain, so the future is bright for them.

Classy Templenoe continued their relentless pursuit of Croke Park glory when they saw off the stern challenge of Meath side Curraha at Kilmallock yesterday afternoon, but not before they got an early scare.

Templenoe have been brushing aside opponents with their swashbuckling and free-scoring attacking play in their Kerry and Munster campaigns, but Curraha’s ultra-defensive game-plan caused them problems early on and Templenoe found themselves 0-3 to 0-2 adrift at the end of the opening quarter.

Curraha dropped 13 players behind the ball and allowed very little space for Killian Spillane and co to operate with Brian Crowley and Teddy Doyle Templenoe’s most effective performers early on.

Curraha had points from Neil Shortall, David Toner and a Colm Moriarty free as only Cian Hallissey and Stephen O’Sullivan could find the posts for Templenoe, who had spurned two goal chances through Danny Cahalane and Adrian Spillane.

However Templenoe finally got to grips with the blanket defence, utilising Brian Crowley and Stephen O’Sullivan down both wings, and when Cian Hallissey levelled after O’Sullivan was fouled in the 19th minute, the writing was on the wall for the Meath lads.

Brian Crowley fired Templenoe in front a minute later with a superb point from wide right, and he was then involved in the goal that effectively settled this contest.

Teddy Doyle launched a Garryowen towards the Curraha posts in the 24th minute.

Full-back Simon McDermott collected but turned the ball over and Brian Crowley took possession only to be felled inside the square.

Crowley expertly drilled the spot kick to the bottom corner and suddenly Templenoe were in control.

Cian Hallissey fired over a sublime point to leave it 1-5 to 0-3 in favour of Templenoe at half-time and hard though Curraha tried in the second period, they simply did not have the potency going forward to trouble the Kerry side and only managed two pointed frees.

Templenoe grew in confidence with Tadgh Morley. Kieran O’Neill, the Crowley twins and the Spillanes completely dominating and some excellent points from Crowley, Stephen O’Sullivan, Teddy Doyle and sub Pat Spillane (Junior) securing their passage to the February 6th decider.

Magic In The Air

MAGIC IN THE AIR, by Karen O'Mahony

I took a walk to Coss today, tis often times I do

Then I gazed out o'er the ocean for to spare a thought or two

And yes I saw its beauty...but this day could not compare

For there was something different. There was magic in the air.

The waves seemed to dance higher, a more vibrant shade of blue

And as they crashed onto the shore, they roared "Templenoe Abu!"

The sun seemed to shine brighter, gulls soared higher in the sky

And when the wind it howled at them, "COYBIB" was their reply.

I turned and walked back towards the pitch, tis often times I do

And stood before the empty stand, it's colours white and blue

The wind it whirled around empty seats that waited row by row

And joined by swallows overhead it howled "Come on Templenoe!!"

I walked up passed the graveyard, perched peacefully on the hill

Will our loved ones be at Crokers? Oh yes. I know they will.

They trained, and played and cheered too hard to miss out on this day

We'll hear their chanting in the wind..."Up Templenoe!!! they'll say.

I turned to walk the hill down home, tis often that I do

And I recalled the cheers down through the years for the lads in white and blue

I asked myself the question then "what sets this team apart"

Not only talent, skill and speed but this club has Drive and Heart.

So it's head to head, up in Croke Park, to battle Ardnaree

The young and old, ye must be told, they are all proud of ye

And I'd swear 'tis true, that the waves in Coss, are a more vibrant shade of blue

And as they crash onto the shore they roar "Templenoe Abu!!"

AIB All-Ireland JFC final - Templenoe (Kerry) 4-13 Ardnaree-Sarsfields (Mayo) 1-10:

A hat-trick of goals from Stephen O’Sullivan, allied with key contributions from Brian Crowley and the Spillane brothers, secured a famous victory for Templenoe in the AIB All-Ireland junior club final.

O’Sullivan struck in the 17th, 32nd, and 50th minutes to crush the Mayo challenge, though Crowley’s goal just before the interval was crucial, at a time when there were just three points between the sides.

That was despite the six-point contribution from Killian and Adrian Spillane — sons of former Kerry star Tom — with Killian in particular proving too hot to handle for the Ardnaree defenders.

Ardnaree captain, Eoin McCormack kept his side in touch from placed balls and substitute Ronan O’Malley had a goal within seconds of his 20th-minute introduction, as a seven-point gap was whittled down to two.

Killian Spillane made it three with a wonderful score though before Crowley had the simple task to finish to the net after a tremendous team move.

When O’Sullivan found the net for his second time early in the second half, there was no way back for Ardnaree. The westerners struggled to make any inroads on the Templenoe rearguard in the second half and O’Sullivan completed his hat-trick, when breaking a high ball down to Cian Hallissey, taking the return and slipping inside his marker before unleashing a low shot to the far corner.

Pat Spillane, son of the eight-time All-Ireland winner of the same name, was introduced and added a point, as did the excellent Crowley, and though the industrious Martin Rafter and McCormack raised white flags late on, the celebrations had already begun in stands.

“We started the year working hard and we said this was our last step,” said O’Sullivan. “We’d do it and we’d win it.

“We’re in the middle of nowhere. We have a rural population of less than 500. This is a special bunch of players and we knew if we put the work in, we’d keep going and we’d win the All-Ireland.”
