Paudie Palmer Memorial Match:

Templenoe 0-13, Valley Rovers 1-11.

Despite the heavy rain, there was a good turnout at Templenoe GAA Grounds to commemorate and honour our late great friend, Paudie Palmer last Saturday afternoon.

Both sides served up a competitive and entertaining game of football with the outcome in the balance right up to the final whistle. Valley Rovers had the better of the early exchanges and a goal from Adam Walsh-Murphy 8 minutes in paved the way for them to lead 0-03 to 1-03 at the end of the first quarter. However, Templenoe came more into the game in the second quarter, the hosts started to get on top around midfield and points from Sean Sheehan (2) and Brian Crowley saw them reduce the deficit to the minimum by the interval.

Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-06, Valley Rovers 1-04

Soon after the restart, Templenoe edged ahead courtesy of 2 points on the trot from Aidan Crowley. But Valley Rovers replied in kind and by the end of the third quarter the sides were level at 0-09 to 1-06. Valley Rovers scored two 2 pointers in the last quarter which were crucial to the outcome of this contest. The visitors had a three points advantage with nine minutes remaining. However, Templenoe rallied again and two points from Mark Casey and Aidan Crowley left just a single point between the sides at the end of normal time. Then at the death Templenoe almost snatched victory with free from outside the arc, only for the ball to go wide of the posts. Valley Rovers held on for the narrowest of victories.

Full Time Score: Templenoe 0-13, Valley Rovers 1-11.

After the game following a few words from Templenoe Chairperson Tomas Crowley, Valley Rovers Manager Denis Kiely and Collette Palmer, the specially commissioned trophy was presented by Collette to the Valley Rovers joint captains Eoin Delaney and Jacob O’Driscoll.

Templenoe GAA Club wishes to thank the Palmer family, the Valley Rovers GAA Club, referee Brendan Brosnan, The Ring of Kerry Golf Club (for providing refreshments after the game) and to all who attended to help make the event a special occasion and hopefully the Paudie Palmer Memorial Match will continue for many years to come.
