Templenoe Crest

Kerry Petroleum Senior Football Club Championship, Group 1, Round 1.

Austin Stacks 1-18, Templenoe 1-05.

Austin Stacks are back with a vengeance at senior grade putting together a display that Templenoe just couldn’t compete with on the day.

Austin Stacks had slight wind advance for the first half and took the lead three minutes in with a 2 pointer from Sean Quilter. Templenoe countered with Tadhg Morley and Colin Crowley finding their range to get the visitors off to a steady start. But that would turn out to be Templenoe’s last score in the first half. The hosts with their embarrassment of riches had the luxury of keeping their All-Star in waiting Joe O’Connor in reserve. Both sides exchanged a few wides before Paddy Lane and Ronan Shanahan put the hosts two points in front by the end of the first quarter.

Templenoe were trying hard, but time after time their attacks were either getting turned over or they chose the wrong options when the opportunities arose and other times their finishing let them down. Austin Stacks meanwhile kept the scoreboard ticking over with Darragh O’Brien, Shane O’Callaghan, Armin Heinrich, Paddy Lane and Eoghan Carroll all contributing to put them 7 points to the good by the interval.

Half Time Score: Austin Stacks 0-09, Templenoe 0-02.

Austin Stacks introduced Joe O’Connor for the second half, as they sought kill off Templenoe’s chances of recovery and at the restart Armin Heinrich extended their lead with another point. But there was a chink of light for Templenoe, when Adrian Spillane following good build up play got in for a goal with a well struck shot that scraped the crossbar on the way in to reduce the margin back to 5 points. Templenoe immediately tried to follow this up with another score, but good defending by the hosts kept them out, before they ultimately got a score of their own at the other end with Armin Heindrich continuing to shoot the lights out. In the ensuing passages of play Killian Spillane and Armin Heinrich exchanged points to make the score 0-12 to 1-03 at the end of the third quarter.

Any hopes of a Templenoe revival were put to bed in the 50th minute, when Paddy Lane found the net for the Stacks. Gavin Crowley replied with a two pointer for the visitors, but after that Austin Stacks started to ramp up the scores with Armin Heinrich, Fiachra Mangan, Daniel Kirby (2) and Paddy Lane (2 pointer) all chipping in to end the game in style. One notable feature from the game is that all the scores from both sides came from play.
