Templenoe 2-19, Sneem 0-09

Templenoe retained the Thade Morley Memorial Cup with a good victory over Sneem played in Dromore Sportsfield on Sunday (12/02/12) afternoon.The match was a good sporting opening to the football season. The two goals were scored by Martin Reilly.

In the preceding match, The Templenoe / Tuosist U14's had a good victory over the Sneem / Derrynane U14's to win the Johnny O'Sullivan (Myles) Memorial Cup.

Tousist proved too good for Templenoe in the Spillane Cup first round game played in good conditions in Tousist. Templenoe opened the scoring though Denis O Neill and Shane Cremin. Tousist drew level with two points from Liam O Shea. Then came there opening goals from Peter Smith and Johnny Breen putting Tousist in front by 2.02 to .02.

Alan o Sullivan and Danny Cahalane exchanged points before Dermott O Sullivan was put through for Tousist third goal. Tousist added points by Peter Smith, Alan O Sullivan, Danny O Shea & Liam O Shea to one templenoe score by Denis O Neill, leaving the half time score Tousist 3.07 Templenoe 0.04


John Spillane opened the second half scoring with a point but Tousist replied through Colm Bosnan (2) and Liam O Shea. Templenoe put a good move together with ended with a goal by Timmy O Sullivan. Liam Shea and Shane Cremin exchanged points before Danny Cahalane added a free for Templenoe. Dermott O Sulllivan knocked over a point from play for Tousist before John Spillane had the final point for Templenoe.

Templenoe 3-07, Kenmare 2-13

Kenmare had upper hand in the Spillane Cup match played in good conditions in Templenoe on Sunday afternoon.
Kenmare started well and were 1-03 ahead before Templenoe scored. The Kenmare goal was scored by Kevin O'Sullivan, and Paul O'Connor getting the points. Martin Reilly and Aiden Crowley then exchanged points before Cian Hallissey scored a goal for Templenoe. Paul O'Connor and
John Spillane then swapped points followed by points by Denis O'Neill and Cian Hallissey.Just before half time, Denis O Shea scored a long range point for Kenmare, to leave the half time score, Kenmare 1-06, Templenoe 1-04.

Sean Sheehan narrowed the gap with the first point of the second half. Then Kenmare scored their second goal when Shane Duncan rose high to punch the ball the net. More points form Kevin O'Sullivan (3) and Aiden Crowley were replied with a goal from Timmy O'Sullivan. Denis O'Neill
and Alan O'Leary exchanged points which was follower by a great point from Keiran McCarthy leaving the score Kenmare 2-11, Templenoe 2-07. Kenmare's Alan O'Leary and Aiden Crowley both scored from play before Martin Reilly got a late goal for Templenoe, leaving the final score Kenmare 2-13, Templenoe 3-07.

Templenoe 2-07, St Marys 0-10

Templenoe had a good win over St Mary’s in the South Kerry League, in Templenoe on Sunday. St. Marys went in front by 2 points before Patrick Palmer got Templenoe on the score board after good work by John Rice. Points by Danny Cahalane (2) and Denis O Neill increased Templenoe’s lead. Then John Moriarty got in for a goal leaving the half time score Templenoe 1-04 St. Mary’s 0-03.

Denis O Neill opened the second half scoring with a point. St Marys took over and got the next three scores to narrow to margin to one point. Templenoe put a good move together which saw Sean Sheehan bury the ball to the back of the net, and the same player added a point moments later.  St. Marys kept in touch with two points before Patrick Palmer scored for Templenoe. The last score went to St. Mary’s leaving the final score Templenoe 2.07 St. Mary’s 0.10.

Templenoe 3-10, Kilgarvan 1-13

It took a late burst of scoring to ensure victory for Templenoe in the final round of the Spillane Cup, played with an 11:00 am throw in in Templenoe.

Kilgarvan were more alert at the start of the game and had registered four points through Keith Harrington, Kieran O’Sullivan, glen Egan and Colm Kelliher. Points from Darren McCarthy and Patrick Palmer opened Templenoe’s account, but Kilgarvan responded with a brace of points through Kieran O’Sullivan and Shane Randles. Patrick Palmer again scored for Templenoe, but a good period of play from Kilgarvan before half time saw them score 1-02 without reply. The points were scored by Colm Kelliher and Glen Egan and the goal from Timmy Healy. The half time score showed Templenoe 0-03, Kilgarvan 1-08

Kilgarvan had the opening score of the second half through a point from Kieran O’Sullivan, which was responded to by a well taken goal from Shane Cremin. Points were then exchanged between Kilgarvan’s Keith Harrington and Kieran O’Sullivan and Templenoe’s Kieran and Darren McCarthy to leave the score 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Templenoe 1-05, Kilgarvan 1-11. A free from Kieran O’Sullivan was responded to with a Timmy Clifford point, but this was once again cancelled by a Kieran O’Sullivan point from play.

The last 10 minutes saw a great revival from Templenoe, where they started to get a stranglehold around midfield. Some great passing moves starting in midfield worked into the forward line resulted in two quick goals from Martin Reilly. With Kilgarvan one point up at this stage, Templenoe worked a free, which was pointed by Patrick Palmer to set up an exciting final few minutes. Points from Shane Cremin and Patrick Palmer put two between the sides with time almost up. Kilgarvan launched a few late attack, but a Templenoe counter attack at the death resulted in a point for Daniel O’Neill, leaving the final score, Templenoe 3-10, Kilgarvan 1-13.
