Valentia 0-14, Templenoe 1-09

An understrength Templenoe were narrowly defeated by Valentia on Saturday evening.

Templenoe started well, and were in front by three points early in the match, with the scores coming from Padraig O’Sullivan, Patrick Palmer and wing back Daniel O’Neill. Valentia then worked their way back into the game and were and drew level before a long range point from Shane Captain put Templenoe one ahead halfway through the first half.

Valentia again reeled off the next three points to regain the lead, but this was followed up by a goal from Timmy O’Sullivan, who was put through by Shane Cremin. Both teams then swopped scores, with Martin Reilly on target for Templenoe. Valentia struck the final point of the half leaving the score Valentia 0-09, Templenoe 1-05

A free from Patrick Palmer and a point by Timmy O’Sullivan, put Templenoe ahead early in the second half. This lead was pegged back by a Valentia free. Both teams exchanged points, before a surge by Valentia go in front by a score of 0-14 to 1-08. A late free by Patrick Palmer closed the scoring, leaving Valentia victorious on a score line of Valentia 0-14, Templenoe 1-09.

Templenoe 2.09 Skellig Rangers 2.17

Skellig Rangers prevailed in a high scoring and entertaining match played in Templenoe on Sunday. Cian Hallissey had Templenoe briefly ahead but Skellig Rangers took over and went ahead by 1.09 to 0.03 before Cian Hallissey scored a good goal for Templenoe. The half time score was Skellig Rangers 1.09 to Templenoe 1.03.

Patrick Palmer and Shane Cremin had early points for Templenoe but Skellig Rangers got through for their second goal and added more points from play. Templenoe put a good move together to set Patrick Palmer up for a goal. However Skellig rangers finished the game stronger to leave the final score of Skellig Rangers 2.17 Templenoe 2.09

This was a very entertaining encounter played in ideal conditions before a large crowd on Saturday in Listry.

Listry opened the scoring with a point by corner forward Derry Ahern. Templenoe replied straight after, when a good move put Cian Hallissey in for a goal. Points soon followed from Daniel O Neill and Sean Sheehan

Listry converted a free for their second score by Damien Clifford. Templenoe extended their lead with Tadhg Morley and Patrick Palmer on target from play. Templenoe then lost Patrick Palmer through injury and we wish Patrick a full and quick recovery.

Listry took over and scores by John Foley, Anthony Sweeney, Jimmy O Leary and Danny Wrenn all from play in a 10 minute spell cut Templenoe’s lead to only a point.

Shane Cremin hit a point from 45 meters out and Brian Crowley added two more leaving with half time score Templenoe 1-07, Listry 0-06.

Listry settled down better in the second half. Points by Gary O Sullivan was followed by scores from Eoghan Darmody, John Foley and free by Damian Clifford to level the match at 1-07 to 0-10.

A free by Brian Crowley put Templenoe briefly ahead before Listry’s Derry Ahern scored the equaliser from a difficult angle. Templenoe found it hard to score in the second half and had a share of wides. With two minutes to go Tadhg Morley sent over the winner after good team work.

Listry had a late free in injury time but Templenoe defended and cleared it out, with that the final whistle sounded leaving the final score Templenoe 1-09, Listry 0-11.

Templenoe 0.11 St. Senans 0.09

In a game that was leave on five different occasions it took some late scores to secure Templenoe the points.

The match was played in good conditions before a large crowd in Templnoe and was keenly contested throughout. Templenoe opened the scoring through Patrick Palmer and Danny Cahalane. St Senans drew level with points by Sean O Connell and Darragh Kennelly. Both teams exchanged frees with Patrick Palmer for Templenoe and Sean O Connell for St. Senans. The sides were tied for the third time after Cian Hallissey landed a point from play before Sean O Connell over the equaliser from a free 0.04 each.

Cian Hallissey added a free before Templenoe’s goal keep Anthony Sheehan made a point blank save with five minutes to go before the interval. As half time approached Templenoe won a free which Patrick Palmer slotted over the bar leaving the score Templenoe 0.06, St. Senans 0.04 at the short whistle.


Early in the second half John Spillane kicked over a long range point to extend Templenoe’s lead to 0.07 to 0.04. However St. Senans weren’t finished yet, Sean O Connell added free and then their wing forward Paudie Quille kicked a superb point from play. Soon after that another free by Sean O Connell had the teams all square 0.07 apiece.

St Senans went in front for the first time in the match when Sean O Connell was again on target from a free kick. Cian Hallissey from a free had teams level again 0.08 to 0.08 as the game entered the closing stages. Templenoe’s half forward Brian Crowley fisted over the bar after a good team movement and this was followed by 2 points by John Rice putting Templenoe 0.11 to 0.08 in front.

With time almost up St. Senans were awarded a close in free which Sean O Connell drilled over the bar leaving the final score Templenoe 0.11, St. Senans 0.09

Templenoe / Tuosist finished out as comfortable winners in this 2nd round league match, played in sunny but very cold conditions in Templenoe.

The home side opened the match brightly and registered the first three scores through Will Sheehy and a brace from Ciaran Crowley. Cromane responded quickly and followed their opening point with a quick goal from corner forward Shane Aherne. Both teams swapped points before Templenoe / Tuosist registered three points from Will Sheehy, Ciaran Crowley and Tom Looney.

Cromane, who had the aid of a strong breeze in the first half, responded with another goal, again from Shane Aherne from a long ball kicked from midfield. Will Sheehy and Fintan Davis from a quick free reduced the arrears, but Cromane finished off the half strongest with two points from midfielder Shane O’Neill. Half time saw the scores, Templenoe / Tuosist 0-09, Cromane 2-04.

Replicating their first half opening, Templenoe / Tuosist started quickly again, and scored two points through Ciaran Crowley and Darren Maye. Cromane matched that with points from their midfielders Shane O’Neill and Darragh Moriarity. This proved to be the end of the scoring for Cromane as Templenoe / Tuosist started to gain control of the game. Tom Looney pounced on a lucky break of the ball to score Templenoe / Tuosists only goal, leaving the score 1-11 to 2-06 early in the 2nd half. Points from Tadhg Sugrue, Ciaran Crowley and a lovely left legged point from Aaron Morris extended the home teams advantage.

Cromane battled hard to get back into the game in the final the minutes, but Templenoe / Tuosist were playing some good football at this stage and closed out the match with some fine scores. The pick of these were from substitute Tadhg Sugrue, Ian O’Connor and a lovely long range point from Aaron Morris.

The match was played in a very sporting manner and had some great performances from both teams. Most notable of these were Ciaran Crowley, Will Sheehy, Aaron Morris and Tadhg Sugrue. On the Cromane team, midfielder Shane O’Neill and goal scorer Shane Aherne were their most notable.
