Division 1 County SFL, Kilcummin V Templenoe

Kilcummin 0-14, Templenoe 0-11.

Templenoe suffered their first loss of their league campaign, when they took on a very determined Kilcummin outfit on a dry but breezy Saturday evening in Kilcummin GAA Grounds.

The visitors, who were short a quantity of players due to injury, started the match in a promising fashion, and by the 7^th minute Pat Spillane had kicked a hat trick of points from play. They were playing with the breeze and were initially causing Kilcummin problems. From the 10^th minute onwards, Kilcummin came strongly into their game and through strong midfield play and quick attacks up the centre of the field, they started to pick off their scores. Full forward Kevin McCarthy was very involved and in the twenty minute period up until before half time he kicked 0-05 (0-03 frees). With Daniel O’ Leary, Richie O’Connor and Shane McSweeney adding to the score sheet, Kilcummin had built up a commanding lead approaching the interval.

Templenoe did halt the slide in the last few minutes, and a determined run by Adrian Spillane yielded a free which was pointed by Killian Spillane. Kilcummin Midfielder Kevin Gorman was black carded for this offence. The half time score was Kilcummin 0-09, Templenoe 0-04.

Templenoe came charging out of the blocks for the 2^nd half and kicked a point straight from the throw in through Killian Spillane. Within five minutes, they had reduced the arrears with a further three points from Killian Spillane (0-02 frees). Richie O’Connor pointed on the 36^th minute to calm Kilcummin nerves, and they soon followed up with another point from play. For the last twenty minutes, scores in the game were hard earned. Templenoe worked a great goal scoring opportunity, but Sean Sheehan blazed it over the bar. Soon after Templenoe had a goal disallowed due to a push in the square.

A Killian Spillane free reduced the arrears to the minimum with 15 minutes remaining. Kilcummin 0-11, Templenoe 0-10. Kilcummin added to their tally with a point from Mikey O’Shea, but soon after had a let off, when Killian Spillane’s low shot when through on goal, hit the base of the upright and rebounded to safety. The remaining five minutes of the match saw two more points from the home team from the boots of Philip Casey and Shane McSweeney to leave Kilcummin the winners on a score of Kilcummin 0-14, Templenoe 0-11.

Féile Peile na nÓg 2016.

Day 1

On a nice evening, with the rain holding off, Rounds 1 and 2 of the Féile were held in Fr Breen Park, Kenmare this evening.

Templenoe / Sneem gave a great account of themselves by losing narrowly to Kenmare and then beating Rathvilly of Carlow in their 2nd match in a very high scoring affair.

Tim Clifford Memorial Cup

Roger Casements of Coventry won the Tim Clifford Memorial Cup yesterday when they defeated Templenoe in a match played in very poor conditions in Templenoe yesterday.

A big thankyou to everyone who turned up to watch the match despite the wet conditions.

Div1 County SFL, Templenoe V Glenbeigh / Glencar

Templenoe 1-14, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-12

Templenoe hosted Glenbeigh /Glencar in round 6 of the county league, in what was also a repeat of last year’s County Junior Championship final.  Both sides served up an enthralling contest despite the wet conditions, with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions, before Templenoe eventually gained control with a strong finish.

The game started with Stephen O’Sullivan (free) and Colin McGillycuddy exchanging scores. Then the home side were dealt a blow, losing corner back Joseph Sheehan who had to be stretchered off, after he picked up a leg injury. When play resumed Colin McGillycuddy added a second point to put the visitors ahead, but this was replied to with 2 points from the boot of Stephen O’Sullivan. Gavin O’Grady and Templenoe veteran Shane Cremin traded scores, before Colin McGillcuddy hit the target to restore the advantage for the Mid -Kerry side. Teddy Doyle and Stephen O’Sullivan split the posts for Templenoe, who almost had a goal, when Pat Spillane had an effort well saved by keeper Rory O’Connor. Gavin O’Grady hit 2 well struck frees from the ground put to Glenbeigh/Glencar ahead once more, before Templenoe responded with Pat Spillane and Teddy Doyle raising white flags. The away side had the final say in the half with a well taken point from their centre forward Tommy Cahill to make the score at the interval Templenoe 0-8, Glenbeigh 0-8.

The first 10 mins of the 2^nd half saw Glenbeigh /Glencar’s Daniel Griffin  and Gavin O’Grady (free) swapping scores with Templenoe’s John Spillane and Stephen O’Sullivan. The latter then put Templenoe ahead with a point from close range, before Danny Cahalane extended the home side’s lead with a great score from the wing. More excitement was to follow, with Templenoe sub Martin Reilly receiving a black card, as Glenbeigh/Glencar worked their way up the field to grind out a point from Daniel Griffin. Another pointed free from Stephen O’Sullivan was replied to by Gavin O’Grady who converted a placed ball from a tight angle to keep the game on a knife edge. However, in the closing minutes Templenoe steadied the ship with free from Stephen O’Sullivan, before Kerry Junior star Adrian Spillane rounded off proceedings with a brilliant goal giving keeper Rory O’Connor no chance.

Final Score: Templenoe 1-14, Glenbeigh Glencar 0-12

Roger Casements GAA, Coventry

Roger Casements GAA of Coventry are a club with a very special connection with Templenoe GAA Club. The late Timmy Clifford Snr used to line out with them in the 70's and actually captained their Championship winning side of 1978.

The club is celebrating their 60th year anniversary, and as part of their celebrations, they are visiting Templenoe this weekend (18th June). They will play Templenoe on Sunday afternoon at 1pm for the honour of winning the Tim Clifford Memorial Cup. This will be followed by a BBQ in the Ring of Kerry Golf Club (€15).

They also plan to visit Banna Strand to mark the 100 years of the Easter Rising and the landing of Roger Casement, and will be present for Templenoe's Division1 County Senior Football League match against Glenbeigh / Glencar on Saturday evening.

The club would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of Roger Casements, and hope they enjoy their weekend. We would like all Templenoe members to attand the matches and further extend this welcome to Roger Casements.

John West Féile Peile na nÓg 2016

John West Féile   Peile na nÓg   2016

The John West Féile Peile na nÓg 2016 is being hosted in the southwest of Ireland this year by Kerry, West Limerick and West Cork on the weekend of 24th - 26th of June.

Templenoe / Sneem are hosting Ibane Geals, who are an underage combination of Argideen Rangers and Barryroe from West Cork, and the are also competing in Division 4 alongside Kenmare and Rathvilly of Carlow.

The fixtures for the weekend are below.

We would like to welcome all our visitors over the weekend and encourage all from the Templenoe / Sneem area to offer as much support as possible.
