Templenoe Senior Football Team Managment 2017
Templenoe GAA Club wish to announce that Mike Crowley and his management team are calling it a day after seven very successful years in charge of the Templenoe Senior Football Team..
Mike and the Management team oversaw an unpreceded period of success for the Club, where The Templenoe Seniors rose from Division 5 to Division 1 of the County Senior Football League. The County Novice title in 2013, as well as the County Junior and Munster Junior titles in late 2015 were won, which led Templenoe to Croke Park for one of our greatest days ever, when we became All Ireland Junior Club Football Champions in February 2016. The team played football with a great attacking style which won many admirers and brought great enjoyment to the people of Templenoe.
Mike and his Team put in a huge effort during this period of management, and Templenoe GAA Club and Players are deeply grateful for this. The huge successes we have had since 2010 will never be forgotten.

Garvey's / Terrace Talk Team of The Championship
The Garvey's / Terrace Talk team of the 2016 County Senior Football Championship has been announced and Templenoe had an impressive representation of 3 players on the final fifteen chosen with Tadhg Morley, Patrick Clifford and Adrian Spillane.. Adrian Spillane was also chosen as the Player of the Championship which is a great achievment, so well done to all.

Kenmare Shamrocks win Inter title after a 26 year wait

Last Sunday they were team-mates as Kenmare District suffered a county senior football loss to Dr Crokes and one week later fate dictated they would face off against each other in this eagerly-anticipated all Kenmare District County Intermediate Club Championship final, played at the Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday.
However the expected collision of two mighty forces never occurred as Kenmare Shamrocks put injury-ravaged Templenoe to the sword in the opening 30 minutes and the game was as good as over at the interval as Kenmare Shamrocks led 1-8 to 0-1.
Kenmare manager John Morgan O’Sullivan knew during the week that Kenmare were primed for battle “During the week, we knew we were physically in good shape, training had gone well. We were looking for a fast start against Templenoe because if they get ahead of you, they don’t leave you back. We wanted a fast start, we got a fast start and we are delighted with the performance we put on today, we played very well. We worked hard for it but look Templenoe were rocked with a few injuries and we did what we had to do. Our big players stood up when asked. We have never been senior before; all this year our focus was winning the county and nothing else. We expected a battle but it didn’t happen, but its 1990 since we won this last, which is too long”
Mike Crowley (Templenoe manager) was not offering excuses “Look it is never nice to lose but definitely it was in the first half that we lost it. At the moment we are going to put it down to the end of a long journey because they did not have the fight for it in the first half. We got them in at the break, sorted a few things out and we were better in the second half. But in fairness to Kenmare they were away better than us over the hour. We could not get our hands on the ball around the middle and we panicked up front- it was just a bad day”
It was all Kenmare from the outset and they raced 0-6 to 0-0 in front by the end of the opening quarter.
By the time Kenmare scored their fourth point in the ninth minute through Sean O’Shea, Templenoe’s horror afternoon had continued as they had kicked five wides and were being completely over-run by a fast-moving Kenmare outfit with Stephen O’Brien and Sean O’Shea shredding the Templenoe defence and the gap widened between the sides.
Sean O’Shea and Patrick O’Shea added points as Kenmare Shamrocks led 0-6 to 0-0 at the end of the opening quarter.
Kenmare were now rampant and added further points from Paul O’Connor and Sean O’Leary while Templenoe brought their first half wide count to seven and then came the score that surely sounded the death knell for Templenoe in the 27th minute. Stephen O’Brien did the spadework before sending Kevin O’Sullivan through. He was fouled in the act of shooting inside the small square and Paul O’Connor coolly dispatched the spot kick to the Templenoe net.
Then Killian Spillane, with the final action of the opening half saved Templenoe blushes with a converted free as Shamrocks led at the interval 1-8 to 0-1.
Templenoe did to their credit came out all guns blazing in the second half but while a tired looking side did add 1-5, they were all from placed balls, 0-4 from Killian Spillane from frees, a goal from the spot by substitute Brian Crowley and a free from Teddy Doyle.
So Templenoe did not score from play in the hour, something they claim never happened before. Meanwhile Kenmare remained in control with Patrick O’Shea and Sean O’Shea kicking fine individual points from play, while Paul O’Connor put the icing on the Kenmare cake, with a goal from 51st minute penalty after Stephen O’Brien was the victim of a leg block as he pulled the trigger in the square.
After the game, the chairman of the county committee Patrick O’Sullivan presented the Fenan Cup to winning captain Stephen O’Brien and Jimmy Roche of Castleisland Co-op Mart presented the Man of the Match to Kenmare’s corner forward and Kerry Minor Sean O’Shea.
Kenmare will now play Fethard of Tipperary in the Munster Intermediate Championship next weekend at a Tipperary venue.

Championship Fixtures October 2016
The following fixtures have been confirmed at this evenings Kerry County Board CCC meeting
County SFC: Kenmare District V Rathmore, Sunday 09 Oct @ 3:30pm in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney. This is part of a double header, and the other Semi Final featuring Dr Crokes V Dingle will take place at 2pm.
The County SFC final is scheduled for the following Sunday, 16th October.
The County Intermediate final between Templenoe and Kenmare is fixed for Sunday, 23rd October at 3:30pm in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney

County Intermediate Football Championship, Templenoe V An Ghaeltacht

Templenoe and An Ghaeltacht played out a very close contest in the Kerry County Intermediate Semi Final, on a windy and often rainy Sunday afternoon in Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney. This match was part of a double header, with Kenmare defeating Castleisland Desmonds to reach the County Intermediate in the opening match.
Templenoe had the aid of the breeze in the first half, but took a long time to get going. They did not register their first score until the 15th minute when Teddy Doyle pointed a free. An Ghaeltacht had already notched points from Sean M O’Conchúir (2) and a free by Gearóid Mac an tSaoir. Templenoe had worked scoring opportunities but spurned these by dropping the shots short on numerous occasions, and An Ghaeltacht were very efficient working the ball up the field against the wind.
After settling from their first score, Denis O’Neill turned on a great pass from Teddy Doyle and finished the ball to the net. This helped Templenoe’s confidence and they followed up with two great scores from Patrick Clifford and Killian Spillane. An Ghaeltacht responded with a brace of points of their own from Roibeárd O’Sé and midfielder Éanna Ó’Conchúir.
A very important passage of play occurred on the 26th minute. An Ghaeltacht were moving the ball out of defence, but their pass was intercepted by Adrian Spillane who kicked a great long pass to the unmarked Pat Spillane on the 30 meter line. Pat took the ball on and from a good distance out rocketed a shot which finished to the roof of the net. With scores at a premium, this proved to be a great cushion for Templenoe for the remainder of the match. Both teams swapped points in the last minutes of the half, leaving the half time score, Templenoe 2-04, An Ghaeltacht 0-06.
Templenoe had a lot of work to do in the 2nd half to see out victory while playing into the wind. An Ghaeltacht started very well, utilizing quick ball into their forwards, and registered an early score from Éanna Ó’Conchúir. They also kicked a number of wides in this period, and a nice individual piece of skill by Sean Sheehan bought space for him to kick Templenoe’s first score of the half. This was on the 35th minute and it was to be another 25 minutes before Templenoe scored again. An Ghaeltacht started to slowly chip away at Templenoe’s lead and by the 60th minute had levelled the match on a score of Templenoe 2-05, An Ghealtacht 0-11. An Ghealtacht’s scorers were Sean M O’Conchúir (2), Pádraig Óg Ó’Sé and Gearóid Mac an tSaoir.
Templenoe who had struggled in this forward line in this period, finally got a point when Killian Spillane pointed a free going into injury time. They quickly followed up with a point from by John Spillane. This gave a two point cushion coming up to the final whistle, but in the frantic last minute, An Ghaeltacht managed to work two goal shooting opportunities, but both attempted passed wide to leave Templenoe victorious on a score of Templenoe 2-07, An Ghaeltacht 0-11.
