Div 2B County SFL Match Report, Templenoe V Ballymacelligott
Templenoe 0-09, Ballymacelligott 3-09.
Templenoe will remain in Division 2 of the County Senior Football League for 2022, after losing out to Ballymac by 3 goals on Sunday. In the process, Ballymac have also gained the automatic promotion spot to Division 1, as they had already seen off Gneeveguilla in the previous round, so they top the table on the head to head rule.
Conditions were ideal and the game was nicely attended, with both sides vying to make the step up to top flight. However, the first quarter failed to really ignite with both sides squandering chances and coughing up possession on countless occasions. Aidan Breen opened the scoring from a free for the visitors, but Templenoe hit back with 2 points in a row from Josh Crowley Holland and Brian Crowley. The former also went close with a goal chance, only to see his effort cleared off the line. Then 13 minutes in, Ballymac centre half back Dan O’Shea make a great run up the field evading the tackles of the Templenoe defenders, to fire the ball to the net for their first goal. This put the visitor 0-02 to 1-01 ahead at the water break.
Templenoe who were forced line without the services of their sharpshooter Stephen O’Sullivan, did enjoy a purple patch early in the second quarter, which begun with Teddy Doyle nailing a placed ball from a difficult angle to bring back the deficit to one point. Then the hosts followed this up with a brace of points from Sean Sheehan and Danny Cahalane to put them in front for the second time. But this was as good as it would get for Templenoe, who were not helped by loss of their other marksman Brian Crowley to injury in this period. Soon after Ballymac upped their game and hit 1-02 in quick succession to turn this contest in their favour, with Vinny Horan showing his class to score 1-01, while his partner in crime Daire Keane popped over the other score. Templenoe centre half back John Spillane then showed good determination to split the posts with a long range attempt just before the interval.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 0-06, Ballymacelligott 2-03.
Buoyed by their lead and the prospect of automatic promotion, Ballymac pushed on and had the next three scores on the trot from Daire Keane, Aidan Breen (f) and Vinny Horan. Templenoe on the other-hand were just having one of those days in front of goal with the excellent Ballymac net minder Brian Lonergan denying 2 strikes from Templenoe substitute Daniel Crowley and then at the very finish of the match he also did brilliant to keep out a Teddy Doyle penalty, after Sean Sheehan was fouled.
Shortly before the second half water break, a high ball in towards the Templenoe goal was finished to the net by Mike Herlihy and despite protests that he may have been in the square, the goal stood following a consultation between the referee and umpire. Daire Keane then added another point to this tally to put the visitors in a very commanding position at the end of the third quarter to lead by 0-06, 3-07.
To their credit Templenoe fought to the end and did tag on three more points before the final whistle with Danny Cahalane, Teddy Doyle and John Rice all finding the range. But the day belonged to the St Kieran’s outfit, who closed out the game with 2 more Vinny Horan points and the final whistle was greeted with joy by their players and travelling supporters alike
Final Score: Templenoe 0-09, Ballymacelligott 3-09.
Congratulations to Ballymacelligott.
For Templenoe attention will now turn towards the club championship in a few weeks time.

Div 2B County SFL Match Report, Templenoe V Dromid Pearses
Templenoe 2-13, Piarsaigh Na Dromoda 0-08.
Templenoe got their promotion ambitions back on track with an eleven points victory over the South Kerry side in the penultimate round of the County League on Saturday evening.
The match was played in glorious weather, but the first quarter was a start stop affair with frequent breaks in play due to injuries. Indeed the away side were forced to replace Jacob Haigh with James Curran very early on, after he was deemed unfit to continue. But the visitors did dominate the early exchanges and they had opening score of the contest from the boot of Chris Farley (f). Brian Crowley countered with a placed ball effort and then one minute later Crowley set Templenoe on their way after his fist pass was deflected into the net.
The second quarter saw the game open up a bit, with the scores finally starting to flow. Two points on the trot from Dromid’s Chris Farley and Dillon O’Donohue, were cancelled out with converted frees from Brian Crowley and Stephen O’Sullivan to make the score 1-03 to 0-03 after 32 minutes of action. The home side then consolidated their position with corner back Tom Spillane coming all the ways up the field to earn his first County League point of the season. Brian Crowley added another before Dromid Pearses Shane O’Connor kicked a fine score ahead of the interval to keep them well in contention.
Half Time Score: Templenoe 1-05, Piarsaigh Na Dromoda 0-04.
On resumption, Dillon O’Donohue traded scores with Stephen O’Sullivan and it was then that Templenoe, who had wind advantage for the second half started to pull clear with a brace of points from Cian Hallissey, Stephen O’Sullivan and two from Teddy Doyle, who caused problems every time he ran at the visitors defence. Andy Quigley did pull one score back for Dromid to make it 1-10 to 0-06 going into the second half water break.
The final quarter saw Brian Crowley and Stephen O’Sullivan continuing to pull the strings up front for Templenoe. The latter made another contribution on the scoreboard, before he then turned provided for Brian Crowley’s second goal after he gave a precision pass across the goal for Crowley to palm home. The remaining minutes gave the hosts the opportunity to empty their bench and see the game out with further scores from Stephen O’Sullivan and Colin Crowley. Dromid Pearses tried their best to create goal scoring opportunities, but Mark Looney and his defence stood firm and instead Dromid had to settle with two late points from Chris Farley and Padraig O’Sullivan.
Final Score: Templenoe 2-13, Piarsaigh Na Dromoda 0-08.

Div2B County Senior League Match Report, Gneeveguilla V Templenoe
Division 2B, County Senior Football League, Round 3.
Gneeveguilla 1-16, Templenoe 0-09.
Templenoe seniors suffered their first defeat in the County league away to Gneeveguilla last Saturday evening following a disappointing performance with few things going right on the night for the visitors. Nonetheless, there remains two more rounds of the County league to be played and Templenoe’s prospects of promotion are far from over.
The game was played in showery conditions and the first half was very even with both sides matching each other point for point. This was until a Gneeveguilla goal from a penalty just before half time put some day light between the sides, from which Templenoe never recovered.
The opening exchanges saw Jack Cremin (2f) trading scores with Brian Crowley and Stephen O’Sullivan (1f). John O’Leary put the visitors in front again with a placed ball effort. Soon after, Templenoe had their captain Teddy Doyle black carded reducing the visitors to 14 men for following 10 minutes. But a converted free from Brian Crowley did put Templenoe back on level terms ahead of the first water break to make the score 3 points apiece.
His brother Colin was next to get on the scoresheet with a point from play and then another from a free either side of a Jack Cremin free for the hosts. This gave the away side a slender one point advantage 28 minutes in, but from there onwards it was all downhill for Templenoe. A superb long range effort from Connie O’Connor drew the sides level once more, before Jack Cremin added another free and then the same player was pulled down for a penalty. Gneeveguilla’s midfielder Sean O’Keeffe stepped up and expertly dispatched the spot kick.
Half Time Score: Gneeveguilla 1-06, Templenoe 0-05.
Buoyed by their strong finish to the first half, Gneeveguilla tightened their grip on this contest with 3 unanswered scores at the restart to extend their lead to seven points courtesy of Jack Cremin (f), Shane Crowley and Padraig Doyle. Templenoe in fairness responded with 3 scores (all frees) of their own through Stephen O’Sullivan, but contributions from Conor Herlihy and Stephen O’Keeffe from play ensured that the East Kerry side maintained a commanding lead going into the final quarter to leave them 1-11 to 0-08 ahead.
Templenoe spurned 2 goal chances late on that might have given them a glimmer of hope to salvage something from this tie, but instead the hosts pushed on with Michael Murphy, John O’Leary (f), Sean O’Keeffe (f), Jamie O’Sullivan and Padraig Doyle all finding the target to put Gneeveguilla in pole position at the top of the table by close of play. Templenoe’s sole score in the last quarter came from a Stephen O’Sullivan free.
We wish a speedy recovery to Brian Crowley who had to leave the field with a leg injury in the second half.
Final Score: Gneeveguilla 1-16, Templenoe 0-09.
Scorers:
Gneeveguilla: Jack Cremin 0-05 (0-05f), Sean O’Keeffe 1-02 (1-00p and 0-01f), John O’Leary 0-02 (0-01f), Padraig Doyle 0-02, Connie O’Connor 0-01, Shane Crowley 0-01, Conor Herlihy 0-01, Michael Murphy 0-01, Jamie O’Sullivan 0-01.
Templenoe: Stephen O’Sullivan 0-05 (0-04f), Brian Crowley 0-02 (0-01f), Colin Crowley 0-02 (0-01f)
Teams:
Gneeveguilla: Patrick O’Riordan, Philip Cremin, Pa Brosnan, Darren Brosnan, Damien Cronin, Connie O’Connor, Paul O’Leary, Sean O’Keeffe, Michael Murphy, Conor Herlihy, Jack Cremin, John O’Leary, Shane O’Sullivan, Shane Crowley, Padraig Doyle.
Subs: David Gleeson, Mike Brosnan, Jamie O’Sullivan.
Templenoe: Mark Looney, Tom Spillane, Kieran O’Neill, John Spillane, John Rice, Martin Reilly, Patrick Clifford, Sean Sheehan, Teddy Doyle, Danny Cahalane, Colin Crowley, Josh Crowley Holland, Stephen O’Sullivan, Brian Crowley, Denis O’Neill.
