Drugs & Alcohol Player Workshop
The opening workshop of the Templenoe GAA Healthy Club project was held in the Sneem Hotel and was based on a talk on Drugs and Alcohol. The talk was presented by Padraig O’Donovan who is a community Alcohol and Drugs worker at the KDYS.
With a large group in attendance, Padraig gave a fact based talk on drugs and alcohol which was very informative. He also highlighted the realities around Drug and Alcohol taking in the South Kerry region, and the affects it can have on people. This workshop was the first session in the South Kerry Community based Drugs and Alcohol Pilot Project. He hopes to roll out more of these across South Kerry in the coming year, and Templenoe GAA Club would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend.
Padraig also listed a number of resources that are available to people should they encounter issues with Drugs and Alcohol. We will look to list them on the Templenoe GAA website.
We would like to say thank you to Padraig for giving his time to come down to us and provide us with some very valuable information and to Mairead O’Mahony and the Templenoe GAA Health & Wellness committee for all their work in organizing the event

Tom O'Sullivan RIP
It was with great sadness that the members of Templenoe GAA Club and the wider community heard of the death of Tom O’Sullivan on Friday 17th of January.
A lifelong member of Templenoe GAA Club, Tom played at underage and through to the senior team where he earned the reputation as sticky and tough tackling corner back. Success might have been hard to come by in that generation, but Tom was an ever present who travelled the whole county to proudly represent the blue and white.
In his youth Tom also took part in many Scór competitions with the quiz time being his speciality. Tom’s interests in sport and politics which he inherited from his wonderful family, ensured he was always an able performer. Upon retiring from football, Tom was an ever present at all Templenoe GAA Club meetings, matches and functions. Through his brothers, Patrick and Paul’s postings as club PRO’s, Tom was always helping out. He tracked match scorers, kept notes and contributed to the after match debate as the match report was been written up in the O’Sullivan household in Claddanure. Indeed Tom was still providing this service up to last weekend in the All Ireland Semi Final in Kilmallock.
Tom was also a perennial Kerry GAA season ticket holder, who travelled far and wide following the Kingdom. He took great pride in the performances of those in green and gold, and especially the displays of the local players. Tom didn’t limit his love of sport to the GAA, he also visited Old Trafford on a number of occasions to watch his beloved Manchester United play.
The passing of Tom O’Sullivan is felt as a huge loss to everyone at Templenoe GAA Club. All our thoughts are with his parents Jack and Mary and his brothers Patrick, John and Paul.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
Thomas O' Sullivan, (Claddanure West, Kenmare, Co Kerry) on the 17th of January, 2020, peacefully at his home. Beloved son of Jack and Mary (nee O' Connor), loving brother of Patrick, John and Paul. Very sadly missed and dearly loved by his father, mother, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and his many friends.
May He Rest In Peace
Reposing at O' Connor's Funeral Home, Kenmare on Tuesday evening (January 21st) from 5.00pm to 7.00pm followed by removal to Holy Cross Church, Kenmare. Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday morning (January 22nd) at 11.00am with burial afterwards in Holy Cross New Cemetery, Kenmare.
